The story of Rettifilo, the F&I software built for the dealership.

“Rettifilo” is the Italian word for the straight of a race track: the stretch between two corners where the cars run at their top speed, where nobody thinks about steering any more, only about accelerating. A clean line from one bend to the next.

We chose the name because that is what we want every car finance negotiation to feel like. Not a maze of tariff codes and fifty-item dropdowns. A straight line between the customer walking into the dealership and the quote they take home.

Rettifilo came out of a series of conversations between Claudio Rubbiani — founder of Motore Software — and Marco Guidotti, Branch Manager in Modena with thirty years in the dealership business. Marco is one of those salespeople whose customers, four years after buying a car from him, still thank him when they meet at the bar.

One of the first things he told us: “The balloon payment is a fine thing, but it can cut both ways. Get it wrong and four years later the customer is underwater with the bank and curses your name. Get it right — calibrated on the residual value of the car — and four years later he changes car without paying a cent and thanks you for it.”

That sentence became the north star of the product. Do not build for today's signature. Build for tomorrow's relationship.

Rettifilo is built in Modena, in the heart of the Motor Valley. That is not a geographical accident — it is a positioning choice.

Here, where Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, Pagani and Maserati are neighbours, car dealerships are not anonymous shops. They belong to an ecosystem where the relationship between salesperson, customer, lender and insurer lasts for years. The speed of a straight goes hand in hand with the craftsmanship of people who know the engine has to last.

That is the spirit we have tried to put into the software.

Rettifilo is one of the products of Motore Software SRL, a Digital Co-Founder studio based in Modena. We build vertical SaaS for the Italian small and mid-sized companies that need technology but have no time to build it in house. We come in as technical co-founders, with equity, with a long-term view.
